Telar Reduces Seed Viability of Musk Thistle Seeds

Musk thistle is one the most noticeable of Noxious Weeds in Idaho. It is can grow up to six-feet tall and a few plants can consume large amounts of area making the infested area unusable.
One of the best herbicides used to control Musk thistle is Telar IDF. This unique herbicide stops key enzymes at the plants growing regions from producing further. The results are rather unique in that growth is almost stopped immediately with visible results 2-3 weeks later.
Telar IDF also reduces seed viability of treated plants. The above pictures show seed of a treated and non-treated plants from a trial in Blackfoot Idaho in 2009. The left picture shows small withered seeds compared to plump and viable seeds of a plant treated with a 2,4-D product.
As Musk thistle is spread by seed, those managing this weed will gain significant benefits by controlling both the plant and reducing seed production.
ALWAYS READ, UNDERSTAND, AND FOLLOW PESTICIDE LABELS BEFORE MAKING ANY APPLICATION OF A GIVEN PRODUCT.
